    cherry gin smash

How pretty is this cherry gin smash!?! So pretty and definitely the gin and tonic cocktail you need this summer! Muddle together frozen cherries, lemon juice and simple syrup, then layer crushed ice, Empress gin and a splash of tonic water!

I am loving gin and tonic right now! I swear every single time I have a gin and tonic, I am amazed at how flavorful a drink with just two simple ingredients can be!

So this cherry gin smash is basically a next level, summer patio gin and tonic. Its got the gin and the tonic water, but this summer patio drink has some sweet summer fruit mixed in. Well actually its muddled in and I used frozen cherries because they're easier and already pitted! (I need all of the shortcuts I can get my hands on!)

    summer fruit and gin cocktail

    Ingredients

Frozen Cherries - I love this blend of sweet and tart cherries for baking and drinks! So flavorful and freshly frozen. (plus it comes packed in a resealable bag which is so convenient!)

    Lemon Juice

Gin - for the beautiful indigo layer I used Empress Gin

Tonic Water - Love the Fever Tree tonic water

Simple Syrup - you can muddle with just sugar as well, but for better consistency just heat equal parts sugar and water together until the sugar dissolves. Let the mixture cool and store in a glass container in the refrigerator.

How to make this so pretty?

First muddle or smash the cherries, lemon juice and simple syrup until it's a bit pulpy. Fill your glass with crushed ice and slowly pour in the gin and tonic water. That's it! The crushed ice is the trick to keep the layers separated. But serve it quickly because the layers will start to blend with time.

    What to garnish with?

Keep it simple! Let the drink shine on its own. A lemon peel, mint leaf and a few additional frozen cherries make the most delicate garnish. They help to bring out the flavors in the gin. And that is all you need!
