I love sandwiches! Any kind really, peanut butter and jelly, grilled cheese, cold subs, Bombay sandwiches, love them all! I really don’t know why they appeal to me so much even now. But I don’t think I could ever outgrow my love for sandwiches. But I have a special fondness for this Indian spiced chicken burger right now during the summer grilling months!
My first chicken burger was one of my mom’s chicken meatball. One day I asked her if she could make some patties while she was making the meatballs. I was so excited to be eating something new! Even though it was literally the same thing I had grown up eating, only flatter! I know, it was pretty ridiculous!
Of course I’ve had more than my fair share of burgers now. But when it comes to the flavor, most can’t compare to homemade ones! Here is my recipe for the perfect Indian spiced chicken burger!
Tips for working with ground chicken
- Ground chicken (or turkey) will be very dry if not flavored sufficiently. I've found some of the best flavor enhancers for ground chicken or turkey are dried or fresh herbs (cilantro, parsley, basil) and diced veggies (onions, celery, bell peppers)
- I always add an egg to the ground meat mixture to help keep everything together and to help
- If the mixture is too wet to form patties, add some breadcrumbs

Lower heat to medium high heat and cook patties (flipping halfway through) until the internal temperature of the meat reaches 165°. On the stovetop: Add cooking oil to a large nonstick pan or griddle on medium high heat. Add the burgers to the pan. Cook about 7 minutes per side.
