We recently came back from an amazing family vacation in Riviera Maya at Generations Riviera Maya, a Karisma Resort.
Generations is a very baby and kid-friendly, all suite, all-inclusive resort. We chose this resort because we were looking for a luxury getaway with gourmet cuisine and over the top service but one that was still family oriented. Honestly, Generations fit the bill perfectly!
Accommodations
We stayed in a spacious oceanfront swim-up suite. The feel of the room is very clean, modern and luxurious. The bathroom contains a Jacuzzi and a walk in shower that has the option of a rain shower! The rain shower is amazing! Definitely something I would not mind installing at home!

We chose to upgrade to a swim-up suite so we could have our own private pool area and also so when our 2-year old Jaiden napped, we could spend time in the pool. We ended up being able to enjoy the swim-up almost everyday and the views with the infinity pool were amazing! Only downside was that all of the swim-ups are right on top of each other and they don't seem to get much sunlight, so the water was really cold!

Pools and Beach
The resort has a very boutique feel to it. It seems like its smaller and more personalized rather than a massive, get lost in the crowd type of resort. You can tell by the layout of the buildings and pools. Instead of having multiple buildings for the rooms and pools spread out around the property, there’s 3 main buildings for the room and every room is facing the main massive pool as well as the ocean.
If there’s one thing the resort is lacking though, it's definitely the beach! Unfortunately because of the location, the beach is minuscule and the water is rocky and full of seaweed. Not much can be done to improve this. But we did not let this stop us from enjoying the Bali beds and playing in the sand!

Food
So the resort brands itself as ‘Gourmet Inclusive’, which means its all-inclusive but kicked up a notch and even includes top-shelf drinks and gourmet meals. The food at Generations was definitely above average.
The downside: there are limited options in terms of restaurants; 1 for breakfast, 2 for lunch and 3 for dinner (but if you’re over 18, you can head over to the adjacent adults-only resorts for more restaurant options). You have your choice of: Indian, Asian, and New American cuisines.

The upside: so aside from the lack of dining venues, the quality of the food was really amazing! The buffets for breakfast and lunch are filled with just enough options which are continually being refilled. Generations also offers some additional fun food options: on our first night at the resort we enjoyed a Mexican themed BBQ and another day they offered a super fresh grilled seafood lunch feast (seafood was additional charge). Also, judging by the construction, there are more restaurants in the works.

On-Site Activities
We were only at Generations for 5 days, with the sole purpose to get away and do as little as possible! So we weren’t really in the mood to do much when it came to excursions, but the resort actually has some interesting activities available right on the property. We took some time to visit the Bonanza Ranch which contains horses, donkeys, baby goats, peacocks and other animals. There was also a beautiful cenote right on the Ranch! If the ranch visit isn’t for you, the resort also has a greenhouse tour, kayak tour and cooking classes among other included activities.

Kid-Friendly Amenities
The resort is chock full of kid-friendly amenities without feeling like a nursery. Not only do they have a kids club on the property (which we only stopped by because the minimum age is 4 and Jaiden is only 2 right now) but they offer many baby friendly amenities for your stay so there is less equipment that you have to lug from home, such as: cribs, bottle warmers, strollers, monitors.
But the service is not limited the room, they have cleaned high chairs, freshly made smoothies at the bar, options for disposable cups with lids if you forget the sippy cup and a kids menu at all of the restaurants! Of course the best part is the hotel staff, when it comes to the kid-friendly aspect of the resort, the staff was really amazing! Everyone was always super friendly with Jaiden. They gave him so much love and attention! From making sure to chat with him on a daily basis to giving him souvenirs and even creating balloon animals! Jaiden had an amazing time, and of course that helped us completely enjoy our stay at well!

Service
Speaking of excellent service...Yeah, the service is really amazing at Generations. Everyone is very friendly and attentive. The butlers are always available and always willing to help. They really do go above and beyond to make sure you are enjoying your time there.

Overall
Generations Riviera Maya is a beautiful resort with much to offer! Though we would’ve enjoyed having a nicer beach to view or more dining options, we really thought the quality and service at this resort was amazing!
We would not mind returning to the resort in the future, we are also the type that's always looking for new and better. So we are already planning to check out the Karisma portfolio again to see how the Nickelodeon Resorts stack up!
